TVX 2016/Chicago

I attended a conference called TVX 2016.  TVX is about understanding interactive experiences for television and online video.  I am so glad I got to attend this conference.  I met some really interesting people in the industry and learned a lot about things that are being done right now that I never knew existed, such as integrating digital media into live theater productions, or using virtual reality and augmented reality to help autistic individuals deal with the effects of their autism.  I got to speak to the keynote speaker Dr. Tawny Schlieski about a project I am doing this summer through my internship at FXPAL.  I explained to her that I am hoping to research how augmented reality or virtual reality might affect the lives of people with disabilities either in a positive or negative way. She told me that she was unaware of anyone doing that in the field and was very excited to hear about it so that gave me some confidence that what I am doing might actually go somewhere.

I also got to spend some time with my organizational mentor from FXPAL, Don Kimber.  It was nice being able to chat and learn more about him and about what I will be doing this summer.  He has been very helpful to me over the past year with a previous internship and with figuring some things out for my Yosemite trip this fall.  Don also presented a paper and presentation of a project we have been working on and I have made some small contributions to over my previous internship.
